The member representing Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, has described his sustained investment in education as the most impactful achievement of his tenure in the House of Representatives.

Speaking on Tuesday at his Nkwoegwu country home in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Aguocha said his decision to prioritise educational support for constituents was driven by a commitment to securing long term opportunities and improved livelihoods for beneficiaries.

The lawmaker noted that his advocacy efforts have also yielded significant outcomes, including the restoration of jobs and validation of certificates for thousands of affected Nigerians. He maintained that while other empowerment initiatives are commendable, equipping individuals with education and skills offers enduring value.

“Providing our people with the gift of education is essential. When you train a child and give them access to schooling, they return to uplift their families and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said. “While one off distributions have their place, education remains a lifetime empowerment.” he said.

Aguocha disclosed that 700 beneficiaries are currently enrolled in tertiary institutions under his scholarship and support scheme for indigent students, regardless of their chosen institutions. He added that a revalidation exercise for beneficiaries would commence within two weeks ahead of the 2026 award cycle.

He further identified legislative advocacy as another cornerstone of his representation, particularly in upholding constitutional rights and advancing criminal justice.

According to him, effective advocacy ensures that constituents’ voices are heard both within and beyond the legislature.

He said, “In 2024, a group of constituents who studied in Benin Republic and Togo submitted a petition regarding the invalidation of their certificates. The House has since resolved the matter, affecting nearly 25,000 individuals, and directed the Ministry of Education to rescind the decision and restore their dignity.

“The resolution also reinstated affected National Youth Service Corps status and employment opportunities.”

Aguocha added that his interventions extend to broader justice issues, including cases involving wrongful employment actions, stressing that he would continue to use his office to defend the rights of citizens.

On the political landscape in Abia State, he affirmed that while all qualified indigenes retain the constitutional right to contest elective offices, Governor Alex Otti has earned widespread public confidence and support.

“Everyone has the right to aspire, but the prevailing political reality reflects strong support for Governor Otti. We are confident that when the time comes, the people of Abia will renew that mandate,” he added.
