Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over recent comments suggesting that insecurity will not force him out of office.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the president’s stance as troubling and disconnected from the realities faced by many Nigerians.

“It is not political opponents who will judge this administration it is the blood of innocent Nigerians being shed daily across our land. That blood cries out louder than any declaration of political resolve,” he said.

Atiku further stated that such remarks risk downplaying the suffering of victims of violence across the country.

“It is playing into the hands of enemies and opponents,” he said, adding that the situation should not be reduced to political rhetoric.

“It is horrifying that the memories of innocent citizens slain due to the failure of government to provide adequate security would be so casually reduced to political rhetoric,” he said.

The reaction follows recent claims by Tinubu that opposition elements were behind rising insecurity as part of efforts to undermine his chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
