Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.

His assertion comes at a time when the party continues to grapple with internal disputes that have resulted in deep divisions within its leadership structure.

In recent months, the PDP has experienced a split between factions aligned with Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Despite the ongoing tensions and a series of court rulings, Wike has maintained that the party remains united and without factions.

However, Makinde insists that the PDP, under the leadership of his faction, is well positioned to return to power.

The governor made this known while addressing party members and stakeholders during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his faction, held in Abuja on Monday.

“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives members, will produce Senators, will produce Governors, and will produce the next President,” he said.
