Nigeria’s Senate has issued a strong warning to the government of South Africa, urging it to take immediate steps to halt ongoing xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians or face possible retaliation.
The warning came during plenary, where lawmakers expressed growing concern over the handling of the situation by South African authorities.
Speaking on the matter, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, said Nigeria has multiple options if the attacks persist.
“If these things continue, we have alternatives, we have options, and therefore, these words should be sent across South Africa.
“We know where South Africans are, not only in Nigeria but all over Africa, and we can take this fight to their territory,” he said.
The remarks reflect increasing frustration among Nigerian lawmakers over repeated incidents of violence and alleged targeting of Nigerians in South Africa, with calls intensifying for stronger diplomatic or economic measures to protect citizens abroad.
