A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Seyi Makinde has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over remarks made during a recent media appearance.

In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group described Wike’s comments as an “unsolicited display of political recklessness” and accused the minister of verbally attacking prominent Nigerians without restraint.

The statement also condemned the media outing, alleging that it was publicly funded and lacked the expected level of decorum. According to the faction, the appearance amounted to “a performance full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Rather than directly addressing the substance of Wike’s remarks, the group said its focus was to apologise to Nigerians for previously supporting his emergence into positions of political authority, including his tenure as governor and current role as minister.

“We regret offering a platform to a person whose conduct and utterances have become a national embarrassment,” the statement said.

The faction further advised individuals who believe they were defamed by the minister’s comments to seek legal action, stressing that no public official is above the law.

On the party’s internal affairs, the group rejected claims surrounding the existence of a “National Leader” position within the PDP, insisting that such a designation is not recognised under the party’s constitution.

It also confirmed that ongoing party activities, including the sale of nomination forms, preparations for primaries, and plans for a national convention, would continue without interruption.

The statement suggested that Wike’s comments may have stemmed from frustration over his alleged inability to influence the direction of the party, particularly regarding the emergence of its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing legal matters mentioned by the minister, the faction said it was awaiting Certified True Copies of relevant court judgments and challenged Wike and his allies to publicly clarify the issues in dispute.
