Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that his former principal, Chibuike Amaechi, joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, without seeking his advice.

Wike, who previously served as Chief of Staff during Amaechi’s tenure as Rivers State governor, said he would have advised him against joining the party if he had been consulted.

Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, is among prominent politicians who joined the ADC coalition and declared interest in the 2027 presidential race.

He later lost the party’s presidential primary to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who emerged as the party’s flag bearer.

Following the primary, Amaechi rejected the outcome, alleging irregularities, although he has since remained largely silent after a visit from Atiku to his residence in Abuja.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike described Amaechi as his political brother, noting their long working relationship in Rivers State politics.

According to him, the ADC structure was flawed and the party was effectively arranged to favour Atiku’s emergence.

“Amaechi is my brother. I served under his administration. And when I saw that he was running…I saw the setup. If he had called me before joining the ADC, I would have told him, ‘don’t go there.’

“It was very clear. No transparency or due process. When I saw the setup, in ADC, and I saw David Mark, I laughed. When you’ve worked with people you know who’s who, who would do what.

“That party was Atiku’s setup, hundred percent. You can’t set a trap for me. My brother Amaechi made a mistake. He was in too much of a hurry. He was carried away by people who were shouting, ‘this government is doing well,’…” he said.
