Alwan Hassan, a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that some ministers in Nigeria pay billions of naira to secure appointments and later seek to recover the money through their positions.

Hassan made the allegation on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.

He claimed that the practice was not limited to the current APC administration, arguing that it had existed before the party came to power.

“A lot of ministers pay billions to be appointed, and the first thing they think of is how to recoup that money after being appointed.

“It is the truth about our country and not just APC ministers; it started before the APC,” Hassan said.

According to him, the alleged practice contributes to corruption in public office because appointees may view government positions as investments from which they expect financial returns.

Hassan’s comments have raised concerns about the integrity of public appointments and the potential impact of such alleged payments on accountability and service delivery in government.
