THERE was confusion at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, South-South Region 11, Port Harcourt, on Sunday over an alleged embezzlement of funds belonging to the church.
Members of the church had embarked on a protest over the mismanagement of church funds and the sacking of a pastor, Lanre Adekunle.
The protesters, who displayed placards, blocked the main entrance to the church with their vehicles, demanding the immediate recall of the sacked pastor.
Sources said it was not the first time the worshippers would be expressing their grievances over alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the church.
One of the protesters, who identified himself as Mr. Chukwu Okoroafor, said members of the church were more aggrieved as a result of the sacking of Pastor Adekunle.
Okoroafor said the pastor was relieved of his job by a cartel in the church as a result of Adekunle’s probity in handling church funds.
He stressed that Adekunle had been tough on handling of funds belonging to the church, adding it cost him (Adekunle), who was posted to the church barely two months, his job.
Okoroafor added that only the recall of the sacked pastor would assuage the feelings of the protesting worshippers.
“We are not happy that few individuals in the church will be sucking the church dry. They have converted what belongs to the church to their own personal fund.
“The height of the problem is that the same group that has always frustrated the church by taking the funds wrote petition for the sacking of a pastor that came to save the church from the wickedness of few persons.
“We will continue this protest until the General Overseer hears this and bring back our pastor who is doing the true work of God in our region,” Okoroafor added.
