Ahead of the August 10, resumption of schools for exit classes, the Abia state government under the leadership of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has distributed over 63,000 pieces of facemasks,30,000 100ml/200ml bottles of hand sanitizers to schools in the state.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the distribution in Umuahia, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr Kanelechi Nwangwa,said Abians should be grateful to the state governor for taking the health of the Abia child seriously by providing protective materials that could be used to protect themselves from the deadly coronavirus that is currently ravaging the world as they resume tomorrow.
According to the Commissioner,over 633 public schools across the state would be given Facemasks,Hand sanitizers, Thermometer for checking temperature,Covid 19 Test kit among other materials, adding that each student/teacher would be given a100ml bottle of hand sanitizers and some pieces of facemask, while the schools would also be given.
Handing over the materials to the Deputy Executive Secretaries of Aba,Ohafia and Umuahia zones respectively and the Education Secretaries of the various Local Government Areas of the state, Dr Nwangwa stated that while the deputy executive secretaries of the three zones would handle the distribution for the Senior Secondary Schools, the education secretaries would handle those at the Primary and Junior Secondary Schools respectively.
The Commissioner, however, thanked the governor for making the safety of the Abia child his paramount by providing these items to help protect the pupils/students from contracting the coronavirus.
He added that the facemask/hand sanitizers pallatives would further assist parents who ordinary could not have afford these items for their children as they resume tomorrow.
In their separate speeches the Education Secretaries for Isialangwa South and Isuikwuato LGAs respectively, Lady Odochi Odo and Mr Ogenyi Nnaoma, thanked the governor for keeping to his promise, stating that the materials would go a long way in supporting the children, as it would not only help the students maintain and observe the precautionary measures against the coronavirus but would help awaken the consciousness that covid 19 is real.
They assured the government of their sincere distribution, saying that the items would definitely get to the pupils/students.
The Dean of Education Secretaries in the state and the Education secretary for Ugwunagbo LGA, Hon Patriot Iheanacho, further thanked the governor for his efforts in trying to protect Abians,especially pupils and students, stating that the action connotes love, concern and care for the citizery.
While promising to deliver the items to the targeted audience, revealed that the crop of education managers on board, are tested and trusted and at such, would not disappoint the confidence reposed on them.
