Rivers Tribunal Rejects Move To Declare Dakuku Peterside Ineligible To Contest Guber Poll

The Rivers State Governorship election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has rejected the move by the Counsel to Barr.Nyesom Wike to declare the candidate of the APC in the April 11th Guber Poll Dr.Dakuku Peterside ineligible to be presented as a candidate for an election following the failure of his Party to notify INEC within the stipulated 21days in the electoral act.

PUO REPORTS that the National Assembly Election Petition sitting in abuja had few weeks ago struck out tow petition brought by Hon.Dawari George and Hon.Lucky Odili of Asari toru and Akuko-toru and Ogba-Egbema Ndoni Federal Constituencies in Rivers on ground that the APC failed to notify INEC within the 21days as stipulated in the 2010 electoral act as amended,the tribunal held that the two candidates were not eleigible to be presented as candidates in the election.

The ruling however increased tension in Rivers State as the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) went on air to declare that following the ruling of the National Assembly which struck out the petitions of Lucky Odili and Dawari George on grounds that they were not eligible to contest the elections,similar fate await all the candidates of the APC in Rivers State including the Governorship candidate Dakuku Peterside.

However,on monday the Tribunal handling the Ahoada East,Abual Odual Federal Constituencies rejected the pre-liminary objection to strike out the APC candidate, by counsel to Hon.Betty Apiaffi whose elecoral victoral is being challenged by the candidate of the APC Hon.Nnamdi Robinson Ewhor.

Justice Pindiga while delivering Judgement today, ruled that all motions will be taken along with the substantive suit. This means that the petition brought by Dakuku Peterside is still intact.

The TribunalAdjourned till Friday 31st July 2015 for commencement Pre-hearing
