EKITI State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of plotting to turn Nigeria into an Islamic country.

Fayose described Nigeria as a free society and that would not be taken as an Islamic nation.

He stated that the All Progressives Congress deceived Nigerians to steal the inheritance of the people and maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party would reclaim the Presidency in 2019.

Fayose spoke on Saturday at the thanksgiving and Supreme Court victory celebration of Governor Nyesom Wike that was organised by the Rivers State Chapter of the PDP at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Fayose hailed the Supreme Court for being courageous in delivering a landmark ruling on the Rivers State governorship election.

He explained that Nigerians now had the opportunity of comparing the current and immediate past administrations.

“Rivers State is the soul of Nigeria and it is governed by a man who fears God. Your people will never go to Egypt. I want to appreciate the Supreme Court which was courageous enough to clear the mess.

“We have all summoned courage. They have deceived us to take our inheritance. We are going to get our inheritance back. I want to say one thing; they have started again.

“I want to reveal one secret here; they have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation. But God will not allow it. This was done in 1984, but it failed. I cannot run away; I am Ayo Fayose. If you hit me, you hit trouble, if I hit you, you will be in trouble.

“Nigeria is a free nation and this nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation. Today, I decree the return of a PDP government in 2019. They (APC) are here by chance, they will go by chance,” Fayose said.

He, however, decried the current economic situation in the country, regretting that such was the type of change promised Nigerians by the APC-led government.

In his remarks, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, declared that only those in support of political armed robbery would kick against his declaration that election riggers would be resisted.

Wike also stated that desperation for power was behind the killing of the Ogoni people through an “ill-fated” military operation, adding that his administration would stand firm to protect the Ogoni people.

The governor said he stood for free and fair rerun elections in Rivers State, maintaining that nobody will be allowed to subvert the mandate of the people with the use of the military.

He noted that it was the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct credible rerun elections.

“Let me reiterate that if any INEC officer is bent on rigging the rerun elections, let him first tell his wife and children where his will is located because he will be treated as a political armed robber.

“Popularity is tested on the ground. It is not by carrying army around to intimidate voters. As your governor, I don’t carry army around. How can a politician be campaigning with soldiers,” he said.

Wike added that no matter the number of soldiers introduced in the state, the people would protect their votes and the PDP would emerge victorious in all the rerun elections.

He said, “I will continue to threaten political armed robbers. I will stand firm against those who use guns to steal votes.”

He, however, called on the congregation to observe a minute silence for those killed by the army during an operation in Ogoniland recently.
