IG Orders Crack Down on those Behind Edeoha and Ula-Upata Killings

The Inspector-General of police, Solomon Arase has directed the immediate crack down on those behind the killings of over 20 persons in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State over the weekend.

The IGP gave the order while speaking with journalists at the official unveiling of new spy Police uniform at a brief ceremony at the premises of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Port Harcourt, Monday.
Arase also said that a detachment of Police homicide team from Abuja has been deployed to the State to take over the probe of the killings.
The Police Chief said already, he had directed the State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, to ensure that all the cultists who perpetrated the heinous act were brought to book.
According to him, the weekend killings in Ahoada Communities and other criminal activities in the state were unacceptable, adding that the Police cannot allow few criminal elements to overrun the entire society.
“The situation in those communities is unacceptable, we cannot allow people to take laws into their hands. Police will not allow it to happened”, he said.
Arase warned that the Police would not allow small arms to remain in the hands of criminal elements, adding that the cultists must not be allowed to exist in the society.
He assured the people of the state that the Police will do everything possible to guarantee their security, adding that he was optimistic that the Police would get rid of the cultists and other criminals disturbing the peace of the state.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, said the Police were on top of the situation, adding that the OGP’s order would be complied with accordingly.
The State Commissioner of Police disclosed that at the moment, the Police was working with the communities to ensure that those culprits were arrested, adding that more Policemen have been deployed to the troubled areas.
He said that only four persons were killed during the cultists, mayhelm, and assured the people that the Police would live up to its constitutional obligation.
