Sokoto Varsity matriculates 4,950 for 2018/19 academic session

The Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, UDUS, Professor Abdullahi Abdul Zuru has disclosed that out of about 26,000 candidates that applied for admission into the university for 2018/2019 academic session, only 4,950 candidates were admitted.
Zuru stated this on Friday at the matriculation ceremony of the new students saying, “we are witnessing the matriculation of four thousand nine hundred and fifty (4,950) registered students, Out of a total jamb approved quota of five thousand eight hundred and forty seven (5,847); representing 84.66% utilization of quota”.
The Vice Chancellor added that, analysis of the distribution of students to faculties reveals that 71.80% are science based while 28.20% are Art and Humanity based students.
He said, priority has been given to the science based programmes in compliance with the Federal Government directive on science to Humanity student ratio of 60:40. Also, the university’s response to the desire of the country for rapid development through advances in science and technology.
The vice chancellor charged the matriculating students to always remember that hopes of their families, communities and the country are vested in their successful completion of the programme matriculated for.
 “As you begin an exciting phase of your life please always remember that the hopes of your family, your communities and our dear country are vested in your successful completion of the programme for which you are being matriculated today”.
He further enjoin all matriculation students to carefully read the students Handbook which will serve as an important guide for their memorable stay in the university. And as well be extra vigilant and security conscious; and report any suspicious movement, persons and groups to the appropriate organs of the University calmly and professional.
