Prof. Odibo elected as New Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK

Professor Frederick Odibo of the Department of Applied Microbiology and Professor Philomena Igbokwe of the Department of Chemical Engineering have been elected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies of Nnamdi Azikwe University.

The duo were elected at the 196th Emergency Senate Meeting of the University presided by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS.

Prof. Odibo emerged DVC (Academic) after polling a total of 198 votes out of the 219 votes cast. Professor Vincent Ajiwe of Pure and Industrial Chemistry scored only 4 votes while 17 votes were declared invalid. Professor Odibo is currently the Director, Academic Planning of the University.

In the election of the Dean, Postgraduate School, Professor Philomena Igbokwe polled a total of 122 votes to defeat her fellow contender, Professor A.B.C. Chiegboka who polled 97 votes. Professor Ikechukwu Okoli who had earlier applied to contest withdrew before the commencement of the election.

Professor Igbokwe was a former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and has been acting as Dean of the Postgraduate school since 2018.
