on Tuesday the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has cautioned constables-in-training in the 16 Police Colleges and Training Schools against misusing social media.
The security agency advised them to imbibe and use the principles of public relations for improved service delivery and efficiency while discharging their duty.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, gave a lecture at the Police College Ikeja in Lagos.
He reaffirmed the need to adopt public relations to boost policing strategies of the Force to tackle crimes, criminality, and other forms of social vices in Nigeria.
The PRO, who lectured over 700 recruits on the directive of the Inspector-General Usman Baba, told them not to violate the NPF Social Media Policy.
The provisions, which guide officers and men on the use and regulation of social media platforms, stipulate punishment for defaulters.
“The policy prohibits inappropriate use of social media platforms to promote indiscipline, unethical acts and unapproved activities of police personnel, either in official or personal capacity”, Adejobi said.
The training will be replicated in all Police Colleges and Training Shools in order to properly educate the recruits on the doctrines, ethics and values of policing.
Adejobi charged them to be of good character and worthy ambassadors as they prepare for their passing out and induction.
The spokesperson added that the training they had received would increase their capacity and preparedness for a effective security management before, during and after the 2023 elections.
