In order to develop the vital mineral riches in the nation, the Nigerian and British governments are working together to form a joint technical working group.

The cooperation was announced on Wednesday in Abuja by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, in a statement provided by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori.

The cooperation reportedly resulted from a meeting that took place in December 2023 in London on the fringes of the Mines and Money conference between Alake and Oliver Dowden, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

To finalize the terms of the partnership, a delegation from the British High Commission, headed by Deputy High Commissioner Johnny Baxter, visited the Minister of Solid Minerals Development on Tuesday.

Alake claims that the collaboration will result in investments along the value chain of the mining industry.

He declared that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was committed to facilitating business transactions in the mining industry.

He said that the creation of a new security architecture for natural resources would accomplish this.

He pointed out that by forming a Nigerian Mining Corporation run by the private sector, the administration was also putting in place an effective system of governance.

The minister reiterated the government’s resolve to clean up and realign the mining industry in order to increase its potential to make a significant financial contribution to the country.
