The trial of former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele in connection with allegations of procurement fraud brought by the federal government was delayed on Thursday due to the absence of lead counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyedepo, SAN, had intimated in a letter that he would be absent from court because of another official commitment.

He asked for the trial to be postponed until the day he proposed.

Upon calling the case, one I. D. Ahmed, who made Emefiele’s appearance known, informed the judge that the defendant’s lead attorney had forwarded a letter to him from the prosecution requesting a postponement of the case.

But trial judge Justice Hamza Muazu noted that the EFCC counsel’s recommended date did not work for the court.

The judge then scheduled June 24 and 25 for the trial’s continuation.
