Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North has declared that he does not understand the coalition reportedly being formed by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, distancing himself from any such alliance aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, following a visit to Governor Alex Otti, Kalu emphasized that while he shares personal relationships with the leaders involved, he remains firmly committed to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Atiku is a personal friend of mine, Amaechi is a personal friend of mine, Peter Obi is my friend, brother, and inlaw; El-Rufai is my personal friend and brother,” Kalu stated.
“So their coalition is what I do not understand. What I understand is that APC is on course and I have many triggers to pull out for APC.”
The former Abia State governor made it clear that his political loyalty remains with the APC and President Tinubu, stressing his readiness to support the party’s bid to retain power beyond 2027.
He praised Governor Otti’s performance and acknowledged their personal rapport, stating, “Otti is my brother and he is doing well. I think from my village to this place is one hour. I am not into coalition. APC is the largest party in Africa.”
Kalu’s remarks come amid heightened political activity and speculations over a possible grand opposition alliance targeting the next general elections.
