Diego Simeone has said his team’s resilience and composure were key to Atletico Madrid eliminating FC Barcelona from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Speaking after the second-leg clash at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Simeone noted that his players showed great determination after falling 2-0 behind during the match.
Barcelona had taken early control through goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, putting Atletico under pressure.
However, Ademola Lookman pulled one back for Atletico, helping them regain momentum, although the match ended 2-1 in favor of Barcelona.
Despite the loss on the night, Atletico progressed with a 3-2 aggregate advantage, having secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg at Camp Nou.
Simeone praised his team’s effort against what he described as a fast and technically gifted Barcelona side, highlighting their ability to stay calm and fight back into the game after early setbacks.
