Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a substantial increase in federal allocations to states following the removal of fuel subsidy.

Daniel said Ogun State now receives nearly four times its previous allocation from the Federation Account, noting that the development represents a major financial boost for state governments across the country.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Otunba Gbenga Daniel Midterm Assessment and Empowerment Tour held at his residence in Obalofin Court, Ijebu Ode.

According to him, the increased revenue has positioned Ogun among states receiving some of the highest allocations nationally.

“We need to thank President Bola Tinubu for increasing the amount of federal allocation going to the states by four times,” Daniel said.

“For our eight years in office, we only had access to about N330 billion, but the state now operates a budget of over N1.6 trillion.”

Daniel, however, observed that despite the improved financial inflow, several communities in Ijebuland are yet to fully benefit from corresponding infrastructural development, calling for greater attention to key sectors such as healthcare, education, and economic growth.

He pointed to ongoing and proposed federal projects in Ogun East, including the planned Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode and the Naval Base project in Abigi, as examples requiring stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to ensure timely delivery.

The former governor also revisited the relocation of the Dangote Refinery project, initially proposed for Ogun Waterside but later sited in Lagos State, describing it as a missed economic opportunity for the region.

He expressed confidence in his political support base in Ogun East ahead of the 2027 general elections.
