Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has vowed to review his political strategy and work with like minded associates to prevent the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, from emerging as Nigeria’s president.

Lawal made the declaration on Monday shortly after announcing his resignation from the African Democratic Congress.

The former SGF had earlier explained that his decision to leave the party was influenced by what he described as irregularities in the ADC presidential primary, which he alleged was manipulated in favour of Atiku.

In a strongly worded statement, Lawal criticised the former vice president and pledged to support efforts aimed at stopping his presidential ambition.

According to him, he intends to step back temporarily while observing the unfolding political contest ahead of the 2027 election.

“I will be tweaking my plans for the future and consulting with like minded colleagues on how to stop this incompetent octogenarian from coming close to the presidential office.

“I will, in the meantime, retire to my village farm, from where I will be watching Kachalla Atiku and his band of wicked vote riggers and result manipulators mercilessly out rigged and beaten to pulp by Tinubu’s ruthless and superior rigging machine.

“Then, it will be bye bye to this octogenarian presidential wannabe. It will be bye bye to the North for preferring a religious hegemonist over a competent world renowned economist and corporate guru,” he said.

Lawal’s comments add to the growing political exchanges and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as political actors continue to position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
