Hundreds of protesters on Thursday took to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, demanding urgent action to secure the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The demonstrators, who gathered in large numbers, expressed frustration over the worsening security situation and called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to rescue the victims.

During the protest, participants were heard chanting slogans including “Tinubu must go,” “Rescue them or resign,” and “Bring Nigerian children now,” as they marched through parts of the nation’s capital.

The protesters also engaged security operatives at the scene, insisting that peaceful protest remains a fundamental constitutional right and urging law enforcement officers to cooperate with them.

In a video circulating online, one of the protesters was heard addressing a motorist during the demonstration.

“Oga, Tinubu must go. You see what is happening today. You people are also part of it.

“Take this video. I’m going to post to you. I don’t need any permission. You are a big man. Oga, go and tell people that you witnessed this thing.”

The protest follows the abduction of pupils and teachers by armed gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has generated widespread public concern and condemnation.

Meanwhile, Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, recently claimed that he has information regarding individuals allegedly connected to the abduction.

The incident has also drawn the attention of organised labour groups within the education sector. Earlier this week, members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers staged protests across several states, calling for the immediate rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Public pressure has continued to mount on security agencies and government authorities to ensure the safe return of the victims and strengthen measures aimed at preventing further attacks on schools and communities.
