Former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has backed Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz as a potential winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Rodriguez expressed confidence in his Colombian teammate’s chances of claiming football’s most prestigious individual award, particularly if Colombia enjoys a successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Colombia captain also ranked Diaz among the best players in world football at the moment, citing his impressive performances at club and international level.
“Luis Diaz as Ballon d’Or, why not? For me, he is top 5 in the world right now already,” Rodriguez said.
“If we get to the final, he can win the Ballon d’Or.”
Diaz has continued to attract praise following an outstanding season with Bayern Munich after his move from Liverpool.
The Colombian international played a key role in Bayern Munich’s successful Bundesliga title campaign, delivering a series of influential performances throughout the season.
