Ghana national football team have suffered a major setback ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after midfielder Thomas Partey was reportedly denied entry into Canada.

Ghana are scheduled to face Panama national football team on Wednesday at BMO Field in Toronto as part of their World Cup opener.

However, Partey will be unavailable for the crucial fixture after being unable to secure entry into Canada.

According to Canadian immigration guidelines, individuals who have committed or been convicted of certain crimes may be deemed inadmissible and denied entry into the country.

Partey was recently charged with sexual assault and is currently awaiting trial. He has not been convicted of any offense and has denied all allegations.

The absence of the experienced midfielder represents a significant blow to Ghana’s preparations, given his influence in midfield and his importance to the team’s tactical structure heading into the tournament.

Ghana’s coaching staff will now be forced to adjust their plans as they prepare for a challenging opening encounter against Panama.
