A 55 year old farmer from Borno State, Ali Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for concealing information related to the activities of the Boko Haram in Katara village.
Mustapha, who had remained in custody since 2013, was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
He pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him.
Delivering judgment, Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako convicted and sentenced the farmer to 15 years in prison without an option of fine.
In her ruling, Justice Nyako noted the convict’s submission that there were no government officials or security personnel available to report to, given that he lived in a remote and isolated village in Borno State.
The court further ordered that the 15 year jail term would take effect from 2013, the year Mustapha was arrested and taken into detention.
