Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will defeat African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 presidential election.

Fayose made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.

The former governor referred to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s unsuccessful attempt to secure a third term while discussing the political dynamics surrounding the 2027 election.

“When Obasanjo wanted to do his third term he failed, anybody can deny but I don’t want to join issues with Obasanjo, I’m just giving this as an example.

“When he wanted to do a third term it didn’t work because there are unwritten constitution that is within the norms of our politics,” Fayose said.

He argued that even if Atiku and Obi were to unite, Tinubu would still defeat them in the election.

“Today when you go by the book, in what way will Obi and Atiku, even if they come together, this man, President Tinubu, will still defeat them. But let us say that they didn’t come together, too bad for them,” he stated.

Fayose also questioned the ability of Atiku and Obi to secure substantial support across the South West, particularly in Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states.

“Southwest will come up with not less than five or six million difference, who will vote for Obi and Atiku in Ekiti? Who will vote for them in Osun? Who will vote for them in Ondo? What is their structure?” he asked.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions among opposition figures over the possibility of presenting a single presidential candidate against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2027.
