The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has officially suspended its nationwide warning strike, which began on July 29, 2025.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, during a press briefing on Friday, following a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the union in Abuja.

According to the minister, the suspension of the strike comes after both parties reached a series of agreements aimed at addressing the concerns raised by the nursing association.

While specific details of the agreements were not disclosed, Pate described the discussions as productive and confirmed that normal services in public health institutions are expected to resume.

Leaders of the nursing union, however, declined to comment publicly after the meeting.

PUO Reports recalls that the nurses commenced the industrial action in protest of the federal government’s failure to respond to a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14, 2025. The strike had been scheduled to run through August 5 and affected public health facilities nationwide.

The union had earlier warned health institutions against using intern nurses or student nurses as replacements during the strike, citing risks to patient safety and the integrity of the industrial action.
