The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy and repositioning the party ahead of its forthcoming national convention scheduled for November 15, 2025.
Rising from its 2025/7th meeting held at the Government House, Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the Forum deliberated extensively on the state of the nation, insecurity, erosion of democratic values, and ongoing efforts to restore the PDP as the preferred political alternative for Nigerians.
In a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, the Forum expressed deep appreciation to PDP supporters across the country for their loyalty in the face of what it described as “serious intimidation and anti-democratic actions” by the APC-led Federal Government during recent bye-elections.
The governors commended party leaders and members for their resilience despite orchestrated defections, stressing that such distractions cannot diminish the PDP’s grassroots appeal or Nigerians’ growing desire for good governance.
Reaffirming their commitment to the NEC’s resolution on the national convention, the governors warned against attempts by “anti-party forces” to derail the process, insisting that the PDP remains the only viable platform for restoring Nigeria’s unity, security, and economic stability.
On insecurity, the Forum praised Zamfara State’s efforts in combating banditry but condemned the continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and other parts of the country. They urged the federal government to be more proactive in protecting lives and property.
The Forum also criticized the August 9 nationwide bye-elections, describing them as marred by over-militarization, vote buying, and violence, and called on Nigerians to safeguard their votes.
The governors commiserated with the people of Zamfara State over the passing of the Emir of Gusau and with Oyo State over the recent loss of traditional rulers. They also lauded Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara for his achievements in infrastructure, health, education, and security, as well as for hosting the Forum.
Governors in attendance were:
- Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Bauchi, Chairman)
- Dr. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara, Host)
- Dr. Agbu Kefas (Taraba)
- Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa)
- Seyi Makinde (Oyo)
- Sen. Douye Diri (Bayelsa)
- Sen. Ademola Adeleke (Osun)
The communiqué concluded with a pledge by the PDP governors to continue defending Nigeria’s democracy and working collectively towards a more inclusive, secure, and prosperous nation.
