The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill aimed at strengthening social protection measures for vulnerable residents across the state.

The proposed legislation, known as the Social Protection Bill, seeks to establish a framework for coordinated and sustainable interventions targeted at disadvantaged groups.

The bill provides for support to vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities, the unemployed, the elderly, widows and individuals facing health challenges, with the objective of improving their living conditions.

Passage of the bill followed its third reading during plenary, moved by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Kate Mamuno, who also sponsored the legislation. The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, Sulaiman Umar Alkali.

After deliberations, the House adopted the bill and passed it into law.

Presiding over the session, Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill for transmission to the state governor for assent.

The Social Protection Bill was developed with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Union, implemented through GIZ Nigeria.
