The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State has disclosed that no fewer than eight prominent individuals have indicated interest in contesting the governorship election on the platform of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party described the development as a sign of growing political momentum and increasing public confidence in the ADC as a platform for credible leadership and people focused governance.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Rivers State Chairman Elect of the party, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, who noted that the level of political interest currently being witnessed within the ADC in Rivers State is unprecedented.

According to the statement, those who have expressed interest in the governorship race include a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, a former member of the House of Representatives and former Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority, another former lawmaker and former Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, a renowned architect, as well as several private sector leaders and entrepreneurs.

The party also revealed that several other qualified individuals have shown interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats across Rivers State under the ADC platform.

The statement linked the growing interest in the party to the recent declaration by former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to contest for the office of President of Nigeria on the ADC platform.

According to the party, Amaechi’s declaration represents “another major milestone in the growing national momentum around the party.”

“This development sends a very clear message: ADC is no longer viewed as an alternative party. ADC is now increasingly being seen as the vehicle for the future,” the statement read.

The ADC further stated that the influx of experienced politicians, professionals and technocrats into the party reflects a growing belief among Nigerians that the country requires a fresh political direction anchored on competence, accountability and inclusive governance.

The party maintained that it remains committed to internal democracy, transparent processes, peaceful political engagement and issue based campaigns as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

“This momentum is organic. This momentum is real. And this momentum is growing every day,” the statement added.
