The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his recent conviction and sentencing by the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure in office.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed that Mamman was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to reports, the former minister was apprehended in Kaduna alongside two individuals allegedly accused of shielding him from security authorities.
The residence where the arrest was carried out is also reportedly under investigation by the anti graft agency.
Mamman served as Nigeria’s Minister of Power from August 2019 until September 2021.
He was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on August 21, 2019, following Senate confirmation.
However, he was removed from office on September 1, 2021, and replaced by former Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu.
In May 2026, Mamman was convicted and sentenced to 75 years imprisonment over fraud and money laundering involving more than N33.8 billion linked to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.
The EFCC also released photographs of the former minister following his arrest in Kaduna State.
The anti corruption agency had earlier declared that Mamman, who was reportedly on the run before his arrest, was convicted for diverting funds earmarked for the hydroelectric projects.
