Police Arrest Killers of Two Policemen during failed Kidnap of Bayelsa Council Boss

Authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command have confirmed the arrest of the mastermind of Thursday night’s killing of two policemen during the failed attempt to kidnap the chairman of the Southern Ijaw local government area of the state, Elder Remember Ogbe.

The command through its spokesperson, Butswat Astimin, said the men of the anti-kidnapping squad on Thursday night arrested a 24 years old man, Seigha Oduwaiye, alleged to be the mastermind of the failed kidnap attempt and the killing of two policemen.

In the statement signed by Butswat Astimin, it stated, “The men of the anti kidnapping unit, has arrested the mastermind of the foiled kidnap, one Seigha Oduwaiye from Akassa Brass local government area.The suspect has made useful statements. The men of the anti kidnapping unit have intensified efforts to arrest his fleeing cohorts.”

Meanwhile, the victim of the failed kidnap attempt, Elder Remember Ogbe, described his escape from the armed kidnappers as ‘miraculous’.
According to the statement issued by his deputy chief press secretary, Nehemiah Ayogoi, the armed attack is an ‘unsuccessful assassination attempt’ and the policemen killed were security details attached to the office of the local government chairman.

According to the statement, “The unidentified gunmen who invaded the premises of the chairman came at about 8:55 pm on Thursday 30/7/15 and made frantic effort to shoot directly at him but were resisted by the gallant police officers who lost their lives in the process of the gun duel which lasted for over 30 minutes.”
