The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye on Wednesday evening scorned the Vice President, Pastor Yemi Osibanjo over the comment credited to him about the Past President Jonathan and his predecessor, Umaru Musa Yar’adua not building a single road during their term in office.
He said the House of God is not a place to make such an assumed exaggeration and that being a Shepherd of the Lord in Redeemed Church the number two man should have been couscous of his ground. He advised politicians to keep politics out of the Church as such unholy words can drive away the spirit of God.
Recall that the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, February 26, has claimed that the Federal Government did not construct “a single road” in the past 10 years.
The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan presided over the country for 9 out of the said 10 years. Osinbajo made the statement while speaking at the pastors and leaders retreat of the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos.
Osinbajo’s statement is coming barely 3 months after a contradictory statement by the Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, and his State counterpart on Works, Adebayo Adeyeye.
Fashola, while unveiling his plans in December 2015, praised the achievements of the Jonathan administration. Fashola during his first news conference tagged “Setting the Agenda for Delivering Change” said that Jonathan constructed more roads than any president ever in Nigeria. He also acknowledged that the transformation in the power sector is above 50 % and that he would try to build on it.
Minister of State for Works, Adeyeye, also said that Jonathan’s administration has recorded more success in the provision of motorable roads than any other administration in the history of Nigeria.
Adeyeye, who spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme in December, also insisted that the Jonathan administration has made considerable progress in the road sector, more than any of the governments that have administered the country.
According to him, the administration in 2011 had about 4,500 kilometres of fairly motorable roads, just as he explained that today the administration has about 25,000 kilometres of very good roads. The Vice President, despite these affirmations by members of the Federal Executive Council, appears adamant on throwing shade on the Jonathan administration.
