Immediate past governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji (CON), has decried the divisive politics in Abia State saying it’s harmful to the unity and virtues of the state as well as inhibits development.
He also cautioned Abia politicians on the need to play politics cautiously putting into considerations the fragility of the society noting that politics is not a do or die undertaking.
In a statement signed by his Senior Media Adviser, Don Norman Obinna, the senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District also admonished the youths on the dangers of being a willing tool in the hands of desperate politicians urging them to eschew violence as well as actions that will engender hatred and conflict among them as no meaningful development can be achieved and sustained in hostile environment.
The former governor also took exception at the level of hate messages and propagandas being sponsored and circulated in the media by some disgruntled elements wondering if their desire was to cause conflagration in Abia State.
He pleaded with the purveyors of these evil news designed to cause dismay among Abians to rather emulate him and other well meaning Abians in promoting the spirit of excellence by investing positively on the youths through meaningful empowerment programmes and scholarship schemes to ensure their brighter futures.
“Instead of painting before our youths a state without future, why don’t we support the government in harnessing the potentials that abound in Abia State to the best rewarding proportion? Instead of sponsoring lies against the government on traditional and social media thereby stoking up the polity, let’s educate the youths on how to set up small scale businesses through seminars and workshops and support them financially,” Sen. Orji said.
Sen. Orji who maintained that leaders are not imposed on the people but emerge from them however noted that a state reproduces its kind adding that the kind of State we create and nurture today will determine the quality of the leaders that will emerge tomorrow.
He however praised the Abia youths for being law abiding in the face of the present economic hardship as a result of the recession and further assured those with innovative ideas of his support. He also challenged undergraduates in his constituency to take advantage of his annual scholarship scheme to make themselves relevant in the society stressing that education is the only thing that brings the child of a rich man and that of the poor to the same table.
He furthermore reaffirmed his objective to eliminate class status and enthrone egalitarianism in his constituency through his annual scholarship scheme and other various youth empowerment programmes which have so far produced over 1000 beneficiaries.
