POSTPONEMENT OF ELECTIONS; GOV. WIKE’S MACHINATION – INCRA

The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, INCRA, expresses total disappoinment over the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to hold, Saturday, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

It is clear that the postponement is the machination of Gov. Wike who is hell bent on ensuring he does not face any formidable opposition in the Governorship elections for fear of being defeated following his declining popularity in the State.

We are well aware of the subtle moves and artifices of Gov. Wike to quickly take advantage of the window provided by the postponement to purchase an order from his supermarket, the Rivers State High Court, restraining INEC from featuring Rivers APC on the ballot through the auspices of his moles planted in Rivers APC. This would then strengthen the impetus of INEC, which has shown obvious bias to refuse to relist Rivers APC Candidates on the ballot under the guise of obeying a Court order and waiting for the determination of the matter.

This glaring collusion of INEC with Gov. Wike to nefarious ends is borne out of personal interest and a history between Wike and the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, during their days as Minister of State for Education and Executive Secretary of TETFUND, respectively.

We believe strongly that the continued refusal of the Chairman of INEC to relist Rivers State APC Candidates on the ballot in flagrant contempt of an order of the Appeal Court which was accordingly upheld by the Supreme Court, may be a quid pro quo for the benefits and privileges he enjoyed as the Executive Secretary of TETFUND under Wike as Minister for Education.

While we hope that the Honourable Chairman of INEC, Prof. Yakubu, will act honourably by rising above personal relationship and interest and take full advantage of the window of opportunity the postponement has offered to do the needful and obey Court orders, we however, regret that Gov. Wike has narrowly escaped a massive defeat which would have demystified him and laid bare his emptiness and decietful boast that Rivers State is a conquered territory for the PDP.

Recall that the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has been around in the State since after the Presidential Campaign rally held at the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium, Igwuruta, Rivers State, waiting patiently till this day to cast his vote before the unexpected postponement. His presence, no doubts, has charged up the APC and boosted the morales of supporters and other lovers of Rivers State who are determined to vote out Wike from the Brick House.

We are therefore, not surprised that Wike has lost his cool with his tail between his legs, leaving him with no option than to collaborate with INEC to merely postpone his defeat and doomsday.

INCRA,
Ubima, Rivers State.
