Alhaji Hakeem Amode, the publicity secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Lagos State branch, has stated that Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor) is still the party’s leader.

The declaration was made by Amode in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

He was responding to the uproar caused by Adediran’s recent claim that he still led the state’s party.

According to reports, Adediran, the state PDP candidate for governor in the 2023 election, formally announced his leadership of the party on Sunday during a meeting with other party members and former members of his campaign committee.

Some party stakeholders have called for him to renounce the leadership claim and apologize to the party in response to the declaration.

According to Amode, Adediran was correct when he indicated that some purported PDP officials left the party in anticipation of the general elections of 2023 and joined other organizations.

He said that, in contrast to rumors, Adediran was never called to a meeting by the party to apologize for what he had said.

Amode said: “Nobody can deny that as the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos State in 2023, Jandor is now one of the party leaders in the state.

“His leadership does not affect the duties of the executive members of the party in the state.

“Why should Jandor be asked to apologise to the party for putting the records straight when those who worked against the party have not been asked to apologise and are even being celebrated?

“Someone like Jandor ought to be celebrated rather than condemned for keeping the flag of the party flying despite all the shenanigans that took place before, during and after the elections.”
