The Nigerian Communications Commission, or NCC, has been instructed by the Nigerian House of Representatives to make sure that all pornographic websites are blocked throughout the nation.
The House requests that the Commission order all ISPs to immediately block all of these kinds of content.
The motion was sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, a politician from Katsina State who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tafoki, who moved the motion that resulted in the resolution’s passage, claimed that Nigeria had not done enough to combat cyberpornography and that it was becoming a worldwide issue.
He claims that Nigeria is a “very religious country” where major religions forbid and teach against vulgarity and nudity.
The politician continued by saying that legislation prohibiting pornography have been passed in a number of Asian, African, and Middle Eastern nations.
The congressman from Katsina used sociologists’ and psychiatrists’ cautions about the harmful effects of pornography to emphasize his point.
He asserted that pornography might result in addiction, prostitution, and infidelity.
“Renowned psychologists and sociologists around the world have issued stern warnings on the psychological, sociological and mental consequences of viewing pornographic content,” he said.
The House of Representatives’ Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, put the motion to a voice vote, and the lawmakers supported it.
The NCC was instructed by the House to penalize service providers who disregard the directive.
