According to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not “a criminal offence.”
In a Wednesday media talk, Wike stated that if Fubara has committed any acts that call for impeachment, he ought to be removed from office.
He also emphasized the significance of respecting the rule of law while expressing frustration over the political unrest in Rivers State.
The governor’s close circle members were also criticized by the minister.
“Politics is not play,” Wike said.
“If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence.”
This comes after Fubara was given a 48-hour ultimatum by the Rivers Assembly, which is commanded by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to represent the 2025 budget.
After the Supreme Court ordered the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to immediately resume their duties in a ruling delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, Amaewhule issued his ultimatum.
