The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the FCT Administration is set to introduce comprehensive reforms in the transportation sector aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and commuter comfort.
Wike made this known in Abuja on Friday during an inspection tour of the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals, which are scheduled for inauguration as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.
The Minister also inspected the newly completed access road to Giri District, confirming that it is ready for commissioning.
“There will be a lot of reforms. Obviously a lot of things will happen in the transport sector in the FCT,” Wike said. He explained that a dedicated committee is already finalizing plans for the reforms, which are expected to be implemented before the official launch of the terminals.
“Because as part of security measures, we must know those involved in taxi business and what colour to use, so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify them. Just be assured that we are doing everything possible to strengthen our transportation system,” he added.
Wike emphasized the administration’s resolve to phase out numerous informal motor parks that currently operate along major roads in the FCT, stressing the need for orderliness and security in the city’s transportation network.
Commenting on the quality of work done, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the completed terminals but noted that he had instructed corrections in a few identified areas.
He commended the contractor for the timely and quality execution of the project, stating, “The contractor has done his best, and we will continue to support local contractors who are committed to delivering value to Nigerians.”
The Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals were developed as part of the FCT Administration’s broader efforts to modernize the city’s public transport infrastructure. While the Central Area terminal is still under construction, both the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals are ready for use.
In addition to the current projects, Wike announced plans for two new terminals to be constructed in Bwari and Gwagwalada, expanding the reach of the transport reform initiative to more areas within the FCT.
PUO Reports observes that these developments underscore the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving urban mobility and enhancing the quality of life for residents through sustainable infrastructure projects.
