Elder statesman Tanko Yakasai has said northern Nigeria cannot present a single, unified position because of its vast population and diversity of views.
Speaking with journalists, Yakasai explained that it is unrealistic to expect the region, which constitutes more than half of Nigeria’s population, to think alike. “You can’t put this number of people together and think they will think alike. There will be differences; it is in human nature,” he noted.
He also cautioned against calls for prematurely ending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing the importance of continuity in governance.
According to him, a stable government is necessary to ensure policies and projects are completed within set timelines before power is transferred through democratic processes.
“We want a government that will not only be able to complete its constitutionally allowed tenure but also complete its policies and projects and then hand over to whoever the people decide should continue,” Yakasai said.
The elder statesman reiterated his support for democracy, describing it as the best system for ensuring stability and progress in managing national affairs.
