Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that the recently concluded Anambra governorship election was manipulated.

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Lawal argued that election “structures are used to rig elections; structures are used to defend votes at the polling units.”

The election saw incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance declared winner by the electoral commission.

Responding to a question about whether he had participated in rigging during the All Progressives Congress victories in the 2015 and 2023 general elections, Lawal said: “Some people probably rigged, but the level at which I was involved in the presidential election, our candidate is such that would tolerate rigging.

“Buhari has always told me in every election that ‘look, SGF, let’s respect Nigerian voters. Let us respect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs’.”
