In order to ease the burden of transportation and also elongate the business hours in Aba and Umuahia, the Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has reversed the ban on the time of operation for tricycle operators popularly known as keke, from 7pm and extend it to 9pm.
Governor Ikpeazu also warned the Keke operators against using their tricycles for criminal activities, stressed that any of them caught will face the law.
The Governor made this public when he met with the tricycles operators at a rally organized in his honour by the Abia State Amalgamated Tricycle Operators Association (ASATOA).
He said the initial ban on time of operation to 7 pm was due to the increase in crime associated with keke.
He urged tricycle operators in the state to rid the union of bad eggs in their midst who may want to give the union a bad name and promised that government will stop the imposition of multiple levies on the union.
Dr Ikpeazu who said that his administration has constructed many roads in Aba and installed street lights in the city,said he was committed to rehabilitating the Port Harcourt Road and other roads in Aba.
According to him, the attention being given to Aba by his administration is in the belief that the city is the bedrock of the economy of the state as it is the home of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Earlier in his address read by by the secretary, comrade Osita Ukaumunna, the chairman ASATOA, comrade Eugene Eze Job assured the Governor of the support of the union in view of the many good things he has so far done in the state especially Aba and condemned the attempt by a cabal in the state to wrestle power from his hand.
He promised that the union will resist any attempt to try to remove the Governor from office illegally and urged him not to be dismayed as victory will be his at the end.
