Governor Nyesom Wike who made the observation Monday in a television program pleaded that heads of security bodies should be allowed time to implement security strategies they develop, stressing that the frequent changes was disrupting security plans.
The governor said his administration was determined to tackle security challenges in the state with support of the various security bodies, stressing that he had continued to give the various security bodies the necessary support to enhance their operations.
“The Federal Government needs to allow Security Chiefs remain in Rivers State to do their jobs & douse the tensions. I have had over three Commissioners of Police removed since I became governor.”, he said.
The governor who said he was deeply pained by the killing of a corps member in the last rerun elections in the state said an independent post mortem examination be conducted on the corpse of the corps member to determine the type of gun used by the killers.
He said: “I have told the NYSC, we must know the kind of bullet that killed the Corper. We want to know those who killed the Corper. The death of a Corper during the rerun is painful. Investigation of his death has been ordered”.
He promised to continue to take steps to implement his development programs for the state, saying some of the media reports on violence in the state were allegedly politically motivated, He said: “In spite of the bias media tag: ‘Rivers of blood’, our IGR is improving and there is peace in Rivers State. There are no political killings in Rivers State. Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni LGA crisis is cult related and is being tackled. Election rigging, subverting the will of the people is one of the worst crimes. I don’t regret warning election riggers from rigging elections in Rivers State.
“The governor also said he will not invest in the monorail project started by his predecessor.
“Rivers people have told me not to touch the Monorail left behind by the other government,” he said.
