THE member representing Udu Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uviejitobor has called on the state government to intervene in the power outage being experienced in Udu Local Government Area following deliberate disconnection of the council area by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for over three weeks.

Hon. Uviejitobor who stated this during an interview with newsmen, said the power outage situation in the entire Udu council area has made life more difficult for the people.
The lawmaker stated that from his findings, the management of BEDC said electricity in the entire Udu Local Government Area was disconnected over a protest that was carried out by a community in Udu and its property destroyed.
Hon. Uviejitobor noted that one community’s protest over epileptic power supply and alleged vandalism of the company’s property was not a good reason to disconnect thirty four communities that make up Udu council area.
Uviejitobor who is the Minority Whip in the House said the action of BEDC has brought economic activities to a halt, particularly as people cannot afford the high cost of fueling their generators to carry out their business activities.

The lawmaker called on the management of BEDC to restore power to the thirty four communities as they do not have any problem with the company, stressing that their action was inimical to the growth and development of the area.
Hon. Uviejitobor appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Commissioner for Energy, Barrister Newworld Safugha to urgently intervene in order to restore power back to the disconnected communities of Udu.
