JUST IN: 65 Professors Jostle for UNN VC Position

_NOT less than 65 professors from different universities across the country and abroad have indicated interest to contest the vice-chancellorship position of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN_.

Prominent among the contestants are the two UNN deputy vice-chancellors, DVCs, of Administration and Academics, Prof. Charles Igwe and Prof. James Ogbonna respectively.

Others included are Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Prof. Samuel Eze, four former deputy vice-chancellors, University of Nigeria, Nsukka: Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, Prof. Ifeoma Enemo, Prof. Cyprian Onyeji and Prof. Smart Uchegbu, respectively.

Among the 65 professors, 33 emerged from different departments of the university.

Five of the professors aspiring for the vice-chancellorship position of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, indicated interest from abroad. They are Prof. Nduka Ekere (Engineering) from the United Kingdom; Prof. Jonathan Odo (Law) from Cameroon; Prof. Anthony Okoh (Microbiology) from South Africa; Prof. Lawrence Ugwuanyi (Philosophy) from the Gambia and Prof Godwin Mbamalu ( Chemistry ( from Charlotte NC.

Vanguard gathered that at the main campus of the university in Nsukka, professors have divided into groups, faculties and departments in the effort to penetrate the university governing council that has the final say before the presidency approves winner of vice chancellorship positions of the university.

The atmosphere on campus is charged as Prof. Benjamin Ozumba winds up his five-year single tenure June 14, 2019.

The professors include Prof. Kenneth Oforkansi chairman Senate ceremonials committee of the university. Oforkansi a professor of pharmacy is said to be on the right path of the university, delivered the 140th inaugural lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka “breaking the barriers to effective peroral drug delivery” to upholds the tenets of social justice, straight to issues as it arises.

Notable among the contenders are the Vice Chancellor Coal City University Prof. Malachy Okwueze, a professor of Religion and former chairman Senate ceremonial committee University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Enugu state university of Science and Technology (ESUT) have nine in the list of 65 jostling for the vice-chancellorship position of the university of Nigeria, Nsukka while MOUA Umudike has four aspirants for the position.

Others from other universities include Prof. Eyitemi Ajporhonir (Chemistry) indicated interest from Delta state university, Prof. Victor Ariole (Arts/French) from University of Lagos, Prof. Uche B. Eke ( Chemistry) from University of Ilorin, Prof. Bartholomew Ekwueme (Chemistry) from University of Calabar, Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu (Manufacturing Engineering), Provost Air Force Institute Kaduna, Prof. Sylvester Madu (Psychology) from Chujwuemeka Odumegwu University, Prof. Isaac Mbachu (Political Science & Defence Studies) from Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, Prof. Friday Ndubuisi (Philosophy) from Christopher University, Mowe Ogun state, Prof. Samuel Nzotta (Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Christopher Osubor (Biochemistry) University of Benin, Prof. Jecinta Opara (Health Educational) from University of Maiduguri and Prof. Josephat Ogbuagu ( Chemistry) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Professors of university of Nigeria, Nsukka top the list with 33 manes , they are Prof. Charles Livinus Anike Asadu (Agriculture), Prof. Ferdinand Chilaka, ( Biochemistry), Prof. Ikenna Dieke (English, Literary & African Studies), Prof. Emenike Ejiogu (Electronic Engineering), Prof. Chinedu Eze ( Veterinary Medicine), Prof. Joy Ezeilo (Law), Prof. Emmanuel Ibezim (Pharmacy), Prof. Christian Madu (Industrial Engineering), Prof. Chima Mbah ( Pharmacy), Prof Anene Moneke ( Microbiology), Prof. Obioma Njoku (Biochemistry) Prof. Uchenna Nwagha (Medicine & Surgery), Prof. Boniface Nworgu (Science Educational), Prof. Chukwuyere Nwosu (Veterinary Medicine), Prof. Grace Offorma ( Arts Education), Prof Sabinus Ofoefule (Pharmacy), Prof. Chukwunonso Okafo (Law), Prof. Uchechukwu Okoro ( Pure& Industrial Chemistry), Prof. Denchris Onah ( Veterinary Medicine,), Prof. Charles Omekwu ( Library & Information science), Prof Obinna Onwujekwe (Medicine & Surgery), Prof. Micah Osilike (Mathematics), Prof. Christopher Ugwu ( Religion) and Prof. Fidelis Ugwuowo (Statistics).

The nine professors from ESUT include AguC Agu (Law,), Abigail Alio ( Education), Felix Asigwa (Political science), Frederick Eze ( Pub Admin.), Samuel Eze (Education), Meltius Ezeamenyi (Education), Chibueze Iloegbnam ( Mass Comm),, Ngozika Mbajiorgo ( Education), Ikechukwu Oluka (Agricultural & Bioresources Engineering) and Jude E.O Udenta (Pub. Admin)

It could be recalled that Special Assistant to Enugu state governor on market affairs Chief Aniebonam Ezugwu had earlier last month issued statement that Nsukka born professor have to succeed the serving vice-chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, noting that the position has eluded Nsukka people since the history of the university dating back to 1960 it was cited on soft green hills of Nsukka.
