Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has directly accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of being behind the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Obi, who also served as governor of Anambra State, asserted that the internal conflict in the party was both instigated and sustained by the current federal government.
According to Obi, the political environment in Nigeria has become saturated with propaganda and misinformation, which he claims are tools being used to destabilize institutions and political opposition.
“This is what you get, always, right? This is what you get always in Nigeria, because we now live in a country of propaganda and lies and they manufacture it,” Obi stated.
He continued, “The problem we have in Labour Party is problem instigated and sustained by the government of today.”
In further criticism, Obi referenced controversial remarks made by the party’s embattled chairman against a state governor, saying such conduct highlights deeper issues beyond personal weakness.
“I don’t need to tell you when you have a party chairman who calls a state governor a dwarf and dwarf thinking. Forget about me, so it’s not weak.
“Okay, I’m weak, but it’s not weak. Is every other person there weak? So we’re not sincere with ourselves.
“You speak the truth and they call you names. And we now live in a country of propaganda and lies. They are trying to put problems everywhere, they want to even put problems in families,” he added.
Obi’s comments come amid ongoing legal and leadership tussles that have divided the Labour Party into rival factions, raising concerns about its stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
