Julius Bokoru, media aide to former Bayelsa State governor Timipre Sylva, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for declaring Sylva wanted, describing the development as a coordinated political attack aimed at damaging his reputation.
In a statement issued on Monday night, Bokoru said the EFCC announced the decision through its social media platforms without following formal communication channels or established procedures. According to him, the move appears to be part of ongoing efforts to portray Sylva negatively.
He noted that the allegations against Sylva have shifted over time and called for a thorough investigation into the latest claims. Bokoru added that Sylva remains committed to due process and will honour the EFCC’s invitation once he concludes a medical examination in the United Kingdom.
He also maintained that the refinery project referenced by the EFCC is legitimate and backed by proper documentation.
Bokoru appealed for calm among supporters and expressed confidence that the situation will pass, saying truth remains constant and those behind the campaign will not succeed.
